Asbestos was widely used in construction and in various other industries in early 19th century.However it was not until 1950 that Human being came to know about the harmful effect of the mineral.
The first documented death caused from asbestos was in 1906.After that various scientific experiments were carried out to find out the true nature of Asbestos.Many scientist suggested that the death was due to toxic gas released by asbestos fibers in the air.Victim inhale them while respiration and thus from continuous exposure to the mineral it results in deadly cancer like mesothelioma.
Earlier countries did not took it seriously and use of asbestos was increased to such an extent that by 1950s asbestos was present from buildings to sole of shoes and even in vehicle brake pads.
New Zealand was one of the first country that banned the use of asbestos in industry in 80s.Later On the use of asbestos was banned or limited to an extent by many countries.These countries include New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, United states and United Kingdom.
In India asbestos is yet to be banned by supreme court though being aware of all of the health hazards.
